Development of a contaminant concentration transport model for sulfate-contaminated areas

Abstract Groundwater pollution is one of the most important challenges for human. In many parts world, groundwater used agriculture and even drinking, whereas natural human-made contaminants have also affected quality these waters. Therefore, monitoring evaluating quantity very important. this research, efficiency finite element method (FEM) flow Sulfate concentration transport modeling has been investigated a 7-year period. After validation analysis, was employed in hypothetical real-case aquifer with regularly distributed nodes square elements 200 m × m. The mean error root (RMSE) as performance criteria were to evaluate model. results indicated that FEM model RMSE = 1.06 (m) 1.44 (me/lit) good skills contaminant modeling, respectively. Also, northeast aquifer, level low amount high (higher than standard values recommended by) which confirmed by real data.
